Meetings and events
The year begins with a course of six lessons for beginners, held on consecutive weeks starting on Monday 19th January 2015 (with the exception of Monday 9th February which clashes with the Fly Fishers meeting and so we skip a week).
The first three sessions will cover the basics, inluding an introduction to the types of flies, basic tools used by the fly-tyer, hooks, threads and silk, fly proportions, materials and techniques that any budding student will need to master. The following lessons will be dedicated to demonstration tying of flies which students will then tie themselves for evaluation.
Following this, on alternative months there will be further fly tying lessons and demonstrations by club instructors. On the other alternate months there will be guest speakers and fly-tyers, who show members how to use the latest techniques and to tie new fly patterns.
The club holds two friendly competitions each year, which are aimed at encouraging beginners to widen their experience by visiting different venues which present a new set of challenges.
